The institution is nearby to Arni which is a small town in the state of Tamil Nadu located on the banks of the Kamandala Naaga River. It is about 40 KM from Vellore and 132 KM from Chennai. The college can be reached either through by bus or train.
The nearest main railway station is Katpadi junction which is about 45 Km from the institution. Regular bus services are available from all important cities of Tamil Nadu state. The college can also be reached through bus from Vellore town via Kannamangalam and Arni. The permanent buildings of the University College of Engineering Arni are under construction at Thatchur village which is situated about 10 Km from Arni to Devikapuram road.
Within a short span of 19 months, the greenish Regional institute of Rural development (RIRD) campus has been completely renovated for the temporary function of the institution without collapsing the heritage structure of Rani Dancing hall & Queen Palace. The other buildings were also modified according to the requirement of lecture halls and laboratories. A part of campus buildings have been put under use to the academic activities of the institution for the past 2 academic years. At present, both administrative office and academic departments are functioning in RIRD buildings at S.V.Nagaram village. There is also a Raja Palace building in the campus which is now administered by the department of rural development.
