Dr. M. Alagar, Director, Centre for Affiliation and Research, Anna University of Technology Chennai was born in Sivaganga, Tamilnadu, India. He is serving as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai 600 025. He received his B.Sc. degree in Applied Sciences from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1976, Master Degree in Chemistry from University of Madras, Chennai in 1978 and Ph.D. from Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai, India in 1987. He joined as a faculty member of Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai in 1978 and became a Professor in the year 2003. He served the teaching profession for 32 years in various capabilities and involved in research and administrative responsibilities. He served as Common Wealth consultant in the Carribean region through Common Wealth Secretariat, London, U.K. and visited.

As a Director, EMRC, he actively involved himself in various activities like enriching the quality of education through television. He also effectively used media for the spread of education and extensively used television for education and spread it to the remote parts of the state. He also aggressively used the interactive learning process through multimedia and extensively trained people in audio / video / multimedia production. Many seminars and projects on e-content development stands testimony to his active participation in updating the knowledge of the student community.

He has involved in research in the field of high performance materials (eg. siliconized epoxy matrices, siliconized epoxy-bismaleimide matrices, bismaleimide-polyurethane-epoxy matrices, siliconized cyanate ester-bismaleimide matrices, EPDM-g-silane/ LLDPE/ PS/ PMMA blends, nonmetallic gold/ platinum/ ruthenium supported with carbon nano tubes for fuel cell and drug delivery systems, organoclay based nanocomposites and POSS based nanohybrid coatings for high performance industrial, engineering and radiation resistant applications).

As Director – Student Affairs, he involved himself in various student related activities like registration, readmission, transfer, eligibility, complaints etc., of affiliated engineering institutions in Tamil Nadu in conjunction with the Directorate of Technical Education. He also engaged himself in the admission of NRI / Foreign students to various affiliated institutions of Anna University, Chennai.
He was the Deputy Director of Centre for Affiliation of Institutions (formerly Centre for Engineering Partnership) of Anna University, Chennai from its infant stage and his part in framing statutes and regulation, conducting inspections to all the affiliated institutions in Tamil Nadu and granting affiliations were of great significance.
Presently he has been entrusted with the responsibility of Director – Centre for Affiliation and Research of Anna University of Technology Chennai on deputation from Anna University, Chennai. With all the above responsibilities, he continues to teach M.Tech. / B.Tech. students in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai.
His various responsibilities in teaching profession are as follows:
He guided 24 Ph.D candidates and at present guiding 12 Ph.D students in the field of nanohybrid composites/ coatings and blends. He was the proud author of 112 refereed research articles in international journals of repute and also presented more than 50 research papers in national/ international conferences. He was involved in funded research projects and industrial consultancy projects, costing more than 15 million Indian Rupees. He is also reviewing research articles for about 17 international journals of repute in the field of polymer science and technology. He is teaching polymer technology, plastic technology, rubber technology, industrial chemistry, applied chemistry for B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Tech./ M.Sc. / M.Phil students for the past three decades.
His rich experience in the field of academic, research and administration were abundantly utilized for the development of Anna University, Chennai and for developing the budding Anna University of Technology Chennai by the authorities.
